How many diets have you tried in the past?
We guess, many and possibly not (always) with the desired results. Before vacation season begins, you are trying to lose the weight you gained during quarantine! Have you ever thought the diets that you followed in the past maybe did not agree with organism because of your blood group?

There are several diet groups that depending on your blood group suggest different types of food. The blood group diet was created based on each person’s biochemical profile. It’s a unique diet corresponding each person’s uniqueness according to blood group that they belong.

Let’s talk about blood groups!

The blood is divided into different groups based the appearance of antibodies, which are proteins surrounding red blood cells membrane. Red blood cells have many antibodies. The most important are two antigenic systems, the ABO system and the Rhesus system. Based on that, the human blood groups have been made.
The ABO system shows the appearance or not of the A and B substances in the red blood cells.
These antigens:

  • Can coexist so the blood group is named AB
  • Only A exists so the blood group is named A
  • Only B exists so the blood group is named B
  • None of them exists, neither A nor B, so the blood group is called 0.

The philosophy of the diet based on the blood group
According to the person who made up this diet, the blood group defines the innate chemistry of our organism. Specifically, the blood group of a person shows his predisposition in diseases. This shows the person’s choice of a specific diet or exercise as there are food that improve health, but they are not the same for each blood group.

How does it work?
Each food contains specific protein and carbohydrate compounds, known as lectins. Lectins function with a similar way as antibodies do. Therefore, if we consume lectins that are not compatible with our blood group our organism recognises them as foreign substance and it tries to destroy them. Therefore, food that are not compatible with our blood group slow down our metabolism and cause problems on digestion.

The suitable food according to our blood group
Food is divided into two categories; the one that is compatible with our blood group and the one that is not.

Blood group 0
Highly based on animal’s proteins due to the high release of acid in the stomach. The low-fat meat, chicken and fish are highly compatible. It is suggested to avoid eating dairy and fibre products, as gluten reduces the metabolism rate. Ideal food for losing weight is red meat, curly lettuce, spinach and broccoli.
What kind of food is suggested and what is not?
Meat
Compatible: Beef, sheep, deer and liver.
Not compatible: pork, bacon, general boiled or smoked cured meat and goose.
Neutral: chicken, turkey, duck and rabbit.
Seafood
Compatible: cod, salmon, sardines, bass, sword fish, trout, white fish.
Non compatible: Smoked fish such as salmon or herring, caviar, octopus, conch, anchovies and lox.
Neutral: cray fish, lobster, prawns, tuna, oysters and sea bream.
Dairy & eggs
Compatible: Not any beneficial dairy for this blood group. It is suggested to regularly consume eggs.
Not compatible: Milk and dairy products that are produced by cow. Parmesan, milk, yogurt, gouda, emmedal, edam, cottage, provolone, ricotta, yellow cheese, Roquefort, haloumi, cheddar.
Neutral: butter, feta cheese, mozzarella, soya milk, goat cheese.
Oils & Fats
Compatible: olive oil, linseed oil
Not compatible: corn, safflower, cottonseed oils
Neutral: Canola, sesame oil

Generally
The consumption of ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard should be avoided since they contain cider so as pickles. (We can make our own sauces and use lemon instead of cider).

Blood Group A
In this blood group it should be avoided the consumption of meat, milk and eggs since the organism stores them as fat. The protein is necessary and should be received through seafood as salmon. Ideal food for losing weight is soya products, vegetables and pineapples.

Blood Group B
There is food which help in gaining weight for this group such as corn, lentils, pistachios, sesame and chicken. In addition, it is noticed gluten intolerance. It is suggested not to consume dairy regularly. Ideal food for losing weight is green vegetables, avocados and liver.

The best option for this blood group is protein from soya and fish since it is easily digested, the consumption of vegetables and reduction in consumption of dairy and meat. Ideal food for losing weight is dividing calories throughout the day by consuming small meals.
