Magnesium: the identity
Magnesium is a metal of vital importance for the organism. Unfortunately, a large part of the population does not receive food with the suggested intake in order to benefit from it.
It participates in more than 300 biochemical reactions. The largest quantity of it is in the bones, tissues and smooth muscles.
Magnesium is important as:

  • It controls energy levels of the organism
  • Helps in bones and teeth health
  • Helps in normal function of the nervous and muscle system
  • Controls the cardiac and arterial rhythm

Organism’s needs are associated with age, sex and several situations such as breastfeeding and pregnancy.

Magnesium… the anti-stress!
Magnesium has many benefits. It is considered the metal that fights stress and prevents several cardiovascular disorders. In addition, it is associated with the increase of lifeline by reducing the damages caused by free radicals. Magnesium regulates release of serotonin, a neurotransporter that controls mood. Deficiency in magnesium leads to depression. Furthermore, it is a regulatory factor of melatonin production, a hormone which controls the sleep-cycle.

What does magnesium deficiency cause?
There are many times that our organism sends messages, but we translate them differently.
For example, if are continuously in a bad mood it’s not only due to difficulties in life…
Did you ever consider being deficient in magnesium?
Deficiency causes…

  • Gastrointestinal problems such as loss of appetite.

Magnesium administered in high dosages acts as laxative. If you suffer from constipation, magnesium helps in treating those symptoms.

  • Chronic insomnia and sleep disorders.

Magnesium can be the key for controlling sleep.

  • Depression and other psychotic disorders such as stress, intense headaches, painful intestinal disorder.

Research has shown that magnesium has a positive impact on stress and other depression symptoms.
It reduces the release of stress hormones and filtrates the hormones that enter the brain.

  • Increase blood pressure and hypertension

Studies have shown that magnesium deficiency correlates with arterial pressure and cardiac disorders such as arrhythmias, tachycardia, artery disease, increased neuromuscular activity, numbness and muscle weakness.
Magnesium contributes in the stability of the central nervous system. Possible outcome of this is muscle weakness and trembling.
In addition, in case you feel pain the muscles it is possible to be deficient in magnesium. Magnesium contributes in muscle relaxation and prevents the accumulation of galactic acid.
It also contributes in treating disorders related to arthroses and muscles caused by inflammation.

  • Energy loss and tiredness.

Studies prove that low magnesium levels lead the body to work harder in order to perform its everyday activities.

  • Reduced resistance in stress and metabolic disorders such as diabetes due to glycaemia.

Studies have shown that low magnesium levels correlate with diabetes as people with low magnesium possibly do not follow a healthy lifestyle.

“But I eat healthy what can cause this disease?”
Deficiency in magnesium is not only caused by bad nutrition and consumption of processed food (such as meat and fat). There are other factors such as:

  • Increased alcohol consumption
  • Increased needs due to pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Increased physical or psychological stress or exercise
  • Consumption of diuretic drugs over the years
  • Decreased absorption due to gastrointestinal problems

Food enriched in magnesium are:

  • Nuts (almonds, walnuts, pistachio)
  • Vegetables
  • Wholegrain products
  • Black legumes
  • Potatoes &
