{"id":7509,"date":"2020-05-31T11:35:35","date_gmt":"2020-05-31T08:35:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.spiroulina.gr\/uncategorized\/diakopi-kapnismatos-ofeli\/"},"modified":"2020-11-19T12:40:39","modified_gmt":"2020-11-19T09:40:39","slug":"diakopi-kapnismatos-ofeli","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spiroulina.gr\/en\/blog-en\/health-en\/diakopi-kapnismatos-ofeli\/","title":{"rendered":"World No Tobacco Day: What are the benefits of quitting smoking?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>31st of May is the World No Tobacco Day by the World Health Organisation (WHO).<\/p>\n<p>The aim is to remind us of all the damaging consequences of smoking.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Smoking: an occasion pleasure- permanent damage<\/strong><br \/>\nSmoking is among others the first cause of illness worldwide.<br \/>\nFurthermore, it is associated directly or indirectly with a series of pathological situations such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lung cancer, which is the deadliest cancer type in humans<\/li>\n<li>Oral, pancreatic &amp; urinary tract cancer<\/li>\n<li>Chronic neuropathies such as bronchitis or asthma<\/li>\n<li>Is the main cause of heart attacks, strokes and gangrene because smoke tightens the blood vessels blocking blood to reach the cells.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile smoking:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reduces fertility<\/li>\n<li>Gradual damage in the eyes<\/li>\n<li>Early teeth loss<\/li>\n<li>Early ageing of the skin<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Smoking with numbers:<\/strong><br \/>\nAccording to the Hellenic Institute of Cardiology, the Antismoking and Anticancer Companies:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Greece is one of the top countries in Europe for tobacco consumption.<\/li>\n<li>1 in 3 teenagers have tried smoking and 10% are tobacco users.<\/li>\n<li>The number of tobacco users in our country has increased the last 20 years.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The topic of <strong>World Tobacco day for 2019 <\/strong> is \u201cTobacco and Lung health\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The WHO through their campaign for the World No Tobacco day highlighted the dangers for those who smoke. Furthermore, it supports actions regarding the reduction of tobacco products.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why does smoking put the health of the lungs in danger?<\/strong><br \/>\nSmoking is responsible for the following:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lung cancer<\/strong><br \/>\nThe first cause of lung cancer is smoking. The pathetic smoking is as dangerous as smoking as it increases the appearance of lung cancer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chronic respiratory disease<\/strong><br \/>\nSmoking is the main cause of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).<\/p>\n<p><strong>COPD is <\/strong> a situation where due to smoking there is coughing that makes it hard to breath. Furthermore, smoking affects asthma<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reduced pulmonary development in children who are exposed to smoke<\/strong><br \/>\nChildren who are exposed to smoke are in danger for the appearance of asthma, pneumonia, bronchitis and common respiratory diseases.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do yourself a favour and quit smoking!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>What will happen if you quit smoking?;<\/strong><br \/>\nThe first positive outcomes for quit smoking:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In less than 20 minutes after the last cigar, your heart pulse returns to normal levels.<\/li>\n<li>After 2 hours, heart and blood pressure will fall to normal levels. Possibly, the blood circulation will improve. The first symptoms from quitting smoking begins after 2 hours.<\/li>\n<li>12 hours late, carbon monoxide which is toxic for the body, falls and the oxygen levels in blood are increased.<\/li>\n<li>After 48 hours, the end of nerve cells, begin developing again.<\/li>\n<li>3 days later, nicotine has been removed from the organism and the body.
