Fats are molecules that have atoms of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. They are divided into two main categories; saturated and unsaturated.<\/p>\n<p>Fatty acids exist in our diet as triglycerides as three fatty acids compose one molecule of glycerol.<\/p>\n<p>In humans, the most important fatty acids are the \u03a93 polyunsaturated \u03b1-linolenic and the \u03a96 polyunsaturated linolenic acid.<\/p>\n<p>A diet enriched in polyunsaturated fatty acids is able to reduce the \u201cbad\u201d cholesterol levels (LDL) in the blood without affecting the \u201cgood\u201d cholesterol levels (HDL) thus reducing the danger in the appearance of heart disorders. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spiroulina.gr\/vivliografia#15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><sup>15<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-984 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.spiroulina.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/asteraki1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"19\" height=\"19\" \/>The intake of fatty acids is exclusively through the diet and it is worth mentioning that they cannot be synthesized in the organism!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #8dc63f;\"><strong>\u03b3-linolenic acid (GLA):<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nHelps in various biochemical reactions that take place in the body such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Control arterial blood pressure<\/li>\n<li>Cholesterol synthesis\u03c2<a href=\"https:\/\/www.spiroulina.gr\/vivliografia#15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><sup>15<\/sup><\/a><\/li>\n<li>\u03b7 Body\u2019s response to inflammation<\/li>\n<li>Cell Proliferation<a href=\"https:\/\/www.spiroulina.gr\/vivliografia#7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><sup>7<\/sup><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Research has shown that \u03b3-linolenic acid:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Has an effective role in treating eczema and premenstrual syndrome<\/li>\n<li>Has antibacterial role<\/li>\n<li>Also, several researches have shown that linolenic acid play an important role in cancer treatment.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.spiroulina.gr\/vivliografia#13\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><sup>13<\/sup><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #8dc63f;\"><strong>\u03b1-linolenic acid (ALA):<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is used to synthesize important \u03a93 fatty acids which play an important role in growth and function of the human brain.<\/li>\n<li>Research has shown that it might prevent heart disorders and inflammation and has a vital role in the function of the central nervous system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #8dc63f;\"><strong>Linolenic Acid (LA):<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n\u03a96 polyunsaturated fatty acid, composed of 18 carbon molecules and two double hydrogen bonds.
